  Riding

The bad weather is over. This morning, everything is white in the valley of Chamonix. The mountains stand out in a cold and crystal-clear air…. The forehead pressed to the window of the cable-car, we examine closely the snow fields below, we already imagine the perfect line…. Below our ski tips, the slope flow smoothly… a big and deep breathing in… and here we are, for a magic moment of a nice, delightful ride on one of the best terrain in the world !

The Vallée Blanche
Today, the 15 miles of the Vallée Blanche are incontestably an integral part of the story of the Mont-Blanc Range. From the summit of Aiguille du Midi at 3842m of altitude through to Chamonix (1030m), the run down unfurls along the most elegant, the most majestic itinerary possible. We will stop for lunch at the Requin mountain hut which is perched above an impressive cascade of ice-pinnacles. The final part of the run follows the course of the “Mer de Glace” with the famous north face of the Grandes Jorasses on the horizon. The Vallée Blanche can be skied by all who are comfortable on red runs.

The Vallée Blanche under a full moon !!
Prepare yourself for a magical and unforgettable evening in the heart of the Mont-Blanc range with the full moon as your traveling companion. This heavenly body's silver glow will light up our descent towards the valley, having dined in the Cosmiques refuge, perched high on the edge leading to the "Hand of Noon", an awe-inspiring viewpoint suspended high above the Chamonix Valley on one hand, and the Vallée Blanche on the other.

Héliskiing & ski touring
Heliskiing is well organised in the mountains of our Italian and Switzerland neighbours (and forbidden in France). The helicopter will give us access to huge slopes in the core of some beautiful ranges of high glaciated mountains. After one or two drops, we will use our ski-touring gear for ½ hour or so to pass a col and to take advantage of a last descent towards the valley.

   Ski-touring

A cross between cross-country and off-piste skiing, ski-touring uses synthetic “seal-skins” for climbing up snowy slopes. Once at the top of the slope, the reward is a fabulous down-hill thrill across virgin territory. This experience can be transformed into an adventure with a night in a mountain lodge or a whole week traveling from hut to hut, reaching a different summit each day in time to enjoy and admire the sunrise. If you never experienced ski-touring before or if you want to refresh your memory with the technical aspect of it, I recommend you to take the Introduction to Ski-Mountaineering Week-End, where instruction and practice of the fundamentals of ski mountaineering are developed.

The Mont-Blanc with skies…
…is a dream for many experienced touring skiers. To reach the roof of Europe is already the result of long, strenuous preparation and training. To then put one's skies at the summit and to push on the poles to ski its steep north face surrounded by huge hanging glaciers and to stop some 12.000 feet below becomes the ultimate ski-touring experience in the Mont-Blanc range !

The effort required at high altitude, as well as the long distance and vertical drop of the way up makes this ascent a serious endeavour. Each participant must have good alpine and ski touring experience and be in a perfect physical condition. The ski descent is steep –40° steepness slopes- and can be quite technical with different kinds of snow -hard snow, icy, crusted snow, wind-packed snow….or delicious cinema powder snow ! So each member must have a good off-piste skiing level in every kind of snow.

Ski mountaineering trips

Ski mountaineering trips are ski-touring days which take place over several days. From January to May, they allow you to discover the mountain in its winter finery. Each day is an opportunity to uncover undiscovered places, grandiose viewpoints, secret valleys. Towards the end of the afternoon, a shelter is ready to welcome us for the night. It is a magical journey where amazement, contemplation, and the pleasure of team effort are the joys which every alpine-skier dreams of experiencing at least once in his life.

You will be included in a pre-formed group of at least 3 people, and I will then study your requirements with you in order to work out the raid which suits you best.
